Colour movement in 2010 is predict-
ed to speed up as compared to what has
been happening for the last few years.
Increasing optimism and a search for
brighter, more cheerful colours will be
present; but these very clean and cheery
colours will need naturals to support
and surround them. The colours of
native flowers burst forth in this new
palette, they include bright blue shade
pinks, lemon yellows and new leaf yel-
Generally Australian colours are on
the warm side of the palette; they are
reminiscent of Australia's climate and
the colour of the surrounding sandy
beiges, rich earthy oranges and mustard
golds. The colours of nature reflect our
concern with saving the environment
and our anxiety over sustainability with
hues of cool greens and watery blues.
These key influences will grow stronger
and are an innate way of life as we move
As a complement to these warm
colours we see them counterweighted
with cool grays and steel blues as well
as the tropically influenced blue greens
You may ask what is not hot as it
seems all colours will be evident and
in some ways that is true. Australia's
vast landscape and variety of climates,
styles and geographical differences sees
the need for choice and variety. What
we won't see is an abundance of dreary,
grayed hues as seen in the past, with
the exception of the aforementioned
cool grays. Neutrals will appear as
complex combinations of hues, such as
purple influenced grays, rose influenced
browns and gold influenced tans.
A final addition to the palette is the
use of white, both clean and simple but
touched with a hint of yellow or orange.
Warm off whites will still be the most
popular as they will support the bright
warm hues that continue to be evident
in Australian colour palettes.
